Ovie Onagbeboma - Governance & Systems Strategist

Ovie Onagbeboma

Governance | Equity | Systems Strategist
Canada's healthcare system is not short on policy. It is short on leaders with the structural knowledge and community trust to make policy work. That gap is where I operate.

Who I Work With

The organizations I work with are not short on intention. They are short on the structural knowledge to translate intention into change.

Healthcare executives and system leaders

You are leading through complexity — workforce strain, equity gaps, and cultures that have resisted change. This work helps you build environments where accountability and inclusion are operational, not aspirational.

Academic institutions and nursing bodies

Your institution shapes the next generation of nurses. That is not a small responsibility. This work addresses what curricula miss, what clinical environments reinforce, and what leadership pipelines overlook. The gap between what nursing schools intend and what Black students actually experience is well-documented, and closing it requires more than updated policy. It requires someone who understands both the system and the community it is failing to serve.

Government and public-sector advisory bodies

Policy is only as strong as the systems it is designed to protect. Canada has produced sophisticated frameworks on health equity, anti-racism, and workforce inclusion. What most boards, agencies, and advisory bodies are still working out is how to move from a well-written framework to lived institutional practice — and how to hold that standard when it becomes politically inconvenient. That transition is where this work begins.

Nurses and healthcare professionals at every stage

When the system hasn't shown up for you — and you're ready to navigate it anyway From preceptorship challenges to senior-level transitions — structured, principled support specific to where you are and where you are going.

Organizations navigating governance and equity strategy

Something in your organization is not working — and everyone knows it. The strategy exists. The commitment is stated. What is missing is the structural clarity to act on it, and leadership willing to name what is actually in the way. This work does both.

St. Joseph’s Health Care London
Senior Leader

Ovie provided foundational guidance during the early formation of our CBNA chapter, supporting formal registration and structural development.

Under her leadership, our chapter achieved provincial recognition and contributed to procedural reforms within our university, including the development of frameworks addressing harassment, discrimination, and racism in nursing education.

Her leadership is structured, principled, and deeply committed to ensuring emerging leaders are supported in building sustainable institutional change.

Ajah Malual
Registered Nurse, Founder, CBNA–University of Saskatchewan Chapter

During my preceptorship, I experienced repeated discrimination that significantly impacted my academic progression.

CBNA leadership provided structured advocacy, attended institutional meetings, and supported escalation processes to ensure policy adherence and equitable treatment.

As a result, I was granted an additional clinical opportunity under appropriate supervision, successfully completed my placement, and passed the NCLEX on my first attempt.

The support provided was steady, principled, and outcome-focused.

Registered Nurse

Ovie provided structured career guidance and interview preparation support that strengthened my clarity, positioning, and confidence.

Her mentorship helped refine my professional narrative and approach to competitive opportunities.

The experience underscored the value of disciplined preparation and principled guidance in career progression.

Communities & Perspectives

The work does not stop at the engagement. These are the spaces, platforms, and published thinking where the conversation continues — for nurses navigating a system that was not built with them in mind, and for leaders who know that doing it differently is not optional.

Start With A Conversation

If the work sounds familiar, it probably is. The problems this practice addresses tend to be well-known inside the organizations experiencing them. What is less clear is where to start, who to trust, and whether the investment will produce something that holds. That is a reasonable set of questions. Start with a conversation.
